Summer Music at Chaska Middle School
Over the past couple years, parents of music students here in Chaska have asked if there is more than just private lessons available as part of our summer music program. Well, for the first time, the answer is "yes". Here are the offerings this summer:
*Jazz Band (grades 7-9). Tuesday mornings. Performance July 26 at River City Days at 4 p.m.
*Marching Band (grades 7-9). Tuesday mornings. Performance July 4 at Chanhassan Parade at 2:30 p.m.
*Music Technology (grades 6-12). Tuesday mornings.
*Beginning Guitar (grades 6-12). Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
*School Of Rock (grades 6-12). Wednesday mornings.
*Garage Band (grades 7-12). Wednesday mornings. Performance July 26 at River City Days at 4 p.m.

Music Program at Chaska Middle School-West
I feel that there are many strengths about our music program at CMS-West. Here are a few:
*Many offerings for students during school and after school
*A brand new orchestra program
*Strong community and parent support
*Orchestra and band small group lessons during the school day
*Over 75 percent of our student body is enrolled in band, choir or orchestra
*Strong support from the school faculty and administration
*A Composer of the Month program
Rock Era
Rock Era is a brand new course at CMS-West. The course is an exploratory that students are placed in randomly. It meets every other day for a semester. The 18-week course is broken down into 6 3-week units. Each unit covers one decade of the rock era. Each unit consists of a lecture of important facts of that decade in music and other news events, listening to music and watching videos of that decade, watching an informative video from that era and doing a project that relates to that era. The projects are learning to play guitar (1950s), creating a concert (1960s), producing a radio broadcast (1970s), making a music video (1980s), posting a website (1990s) and participating in a mock-American Idol competition (2000s).
Staff and students at Chaska Middle School-West are invited to contibute to this wiki.

I love the Rock Era class! I wish they had something like it when I was in Middle School. Are the students appreciating it?
